I tried to connect to Second Life but had lots of technical difficulties. I thought it had to to with my computer at work, I have a brand new computer with Windows Vista Business version. Last night I created user and downloaded Second life at my laptop at home and it worked fine.

I searched google and I found this solution to connecting to Second Life through a proxy http://www.sl-through-a-proxy.com/

I followed the steps (they seem complicated though) and I was able to connect to Second Life but then I could not find anyone (or anything as a matter of fact - I am not even familiar with how to move in Second Life).

Yesterday I was at last able to log into Virtual Worlds after several attempts, I had previously downloaded two Virtual Worlds servers but they were not the right one.

Somehow I think it is still too complicated to log into virtual worlds and several security issues involved in connection from work /university computer.

But these are fascinating worlds.

<![CDATA[This blog is a test of Scribefire - add-on for Firefox. Long time ago I used an editor like this to send my blogs to blogger - it was only a editor so there was no need to open a browser. This is handy way to blog. I also have to test to set Word 2007 up so it sends directly to blog. Here is a test of link to Icelandic Broadcasting and TV.
Here is a test of link to picture
I will also try to tag this blog with test, firefox
hmmm... I can not find how I can use tagging, I can however put blog into categories such as wordpress categories.

Ever since I began to participate in wikimedia projects and call myself Wikipedian I have felt Wikipedia is a social movement. Contributing in Wikipedia articles is a statemant that you have faith in this kind of cooperative work and most wikipedians share the vision that there should be no or as small as possible barrier to information and how you can use information - it is a kind of open source spirit.

Maybe Wikipedia is not a social movement, maybe it is not even a social network. When does a social network became a social movement?

In this blog by Storygeek Is Wikipedia A Social Network he discusses how well Wikipedia fits the definition of social network.

One of the criteria for social network he says is making profiles and making friends/contacts. There is a system to add friends/contacts in Wikipedia etc. by assigning youself to a group …. one popular way of doing this is by using userboxes such as at my user page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Salvorand even if not all people that write in wikipedia create profiles (almost none of my students do) then it is easy to look up the edits made by one user - so your cronolodgical list of edits makes up your profile even if you have not created one. You are ranked higher by other Wikipedians if you have many edits and you have written many articles.New users on Wikipedia have very little info on their user pages because wikipedia user pages tend to be about what you have done on Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is a social network.

<![CDATA[I am still in Texas but will be on my flight tomorrow to Iceland. Right now I am participating in the serius games and virtual worlds seminar in the Scope CoP community. This seminar seems very interesting. I have not been doing anything about games for a couple of years now and most of my time right now is devoted to wiki tools. But I have became interested again in gaming, especially on-line games and on the Site 2007 I met lot of people who are also interested in this, especially in using Second Life in education. I would like to participate in a project doing that. Yesterday I bought World of Warcraft and I look forward to trying that game. It seem to be one of the most popular games in Iceland.]]>

Yesterday on April 1st I celebrated my six year personal blogger anniversary. I started experimenting with blogging in December year 2000 first as a part of my website about my Icelandic Christmas. But I soon discovered that blogging was better as a personal reflection tool and I started blogging on the blog Metamorphoses on April 1st, 2001. Now my main blog is at salvor.blog.is and I try to have all this eduspaces blog at eduspaces.net/salvor/weblog my main English blog.

Actually I have many other blogs and I have no idea of how many because I am always trying out new tools. I have one blog leirmotun.blogspot.com documenting my process and thought processes in ceramics and pottery, I also use that blog as an example of a students blog working toward long time gool. This have been successful, students seem to understand better educational ideas if you connect them to some real live activites.

On my blogging anniversary the biggest newspaper in Iceland had an interview with me and this picture of me standing in the stairs in front of my office. This interview had though nothing to do with blogging but was a part of feature articles about wikipedia and wiki tools. I believe this is the first time wikipedia has been featured in that way (with several articles) in Icelandic media. Time changes now I do much more stuff with wikis than with blogs.... or maybe blogging has became so integrated part of my students eportfolio that I do not see it longer as a innovative or separate learning activity.
