English: Here I am trying out jumpcut.com which is online videoeditor where you can edit your own videoclips (photos, audio and clips) and also remix other people clips. It is like Moviemaker but has more features and is totally online - and the best thing is this REMIX feature.

I like it when proceedings from conferences are online and available immediately after the conference. Usually there is a time lag until the proceedings are ready but for the conference that ends tomorrow Open Education 2006: Community, Culture, and Content September 27-29, 2006 proceedings are already on the web.

Final Proceedings
2006 Open Education Conference Proceedings (3.4 MB, PDF)

Ismael Peña from the Open University of Catalonia is attending the conference and blogging about it at ICTlogy.net

Funny Flickr pool about the messiest computer setup. Strange looking at these photos and wondering that maybe I am too tidy... I better start having my desk more messy. My desktop is always very messy though.

<![CDATA[Blogging systems in education that do not allow users to embed videos, audios, flash flv etc. are useless.

This wordpress 2 style editor is very annoying and frustating.
Why cant I publish odeo on elgg blog?

wikispaces has a very neat way to embed media.

<![CDATA[I have not found a way to change templates on communities in Elgg, it seem only users can change templates. Also there is no way to delete communities even if they have no members.

I am considering making elgg blog for a small research group (six members) at my university but it seems that it is not good to make it as a communitiy, there is more control if a Elgg user is created for this group.

Elgg could probably be used as a website for such groups that need a place for files and need to control the access to documents/blog posts and files.]]>

<![CDATA[I had not bothered to find out how to customize templates in Elgg but my students immediately started playing with that. It seem to be important even if content is the king.

One only needs to wander around in the Myspace world to understand that this is what people want and probably what people spend most time on. Dressing up their profiles, changing what music to play on profiles etc.I made banner and icon for one blog for podcasting and for showing how to customize Elgg.

I think it looks very nice, I put together three pictures and added some text in white. I made the banner in Fireworks but I told my students they could use Inkscape for banners because that is open source and free program. Also it is fine to have banners etc. in svg format if you need to change the size.]]>

<![CDATA[I am trying to use Elgg file system as a place for my students to handle in assignment. Most of the assignments for my courses is something web based. Elgg works fine if the assignment is just a single webpape or a single audio file. But most of the time webpages are bundles of pages - there are css files and there are lots of pictures.

An example is this - I want my students to make small dynamic html books such as this book. http://starfsfolk.khi.is/salvor/skolastarf/fletting/index.htm This book is just one htm page + five pictures saved in the same folder. But when I upload these to Elgg and make one folder for this stuff - Elggs makes automatically a subfolder for every single item and that means I can not link them together.

Is there anyway I could make sure there are no subfolders created so I could put several items in same folder?]]>
