Wikis in Educaton session, originally uploaded by Salvor.

I registered today for Wikimania 2006 and my presentation will be Wikibooks, Wikipedia and Webquests - Tools for teachers and learners.

I went to Wikimania 2005 in Frankfurt and enjoyed it very much. Here is a picture of the audience when I was giving my presentation.Since then I have been much more involved in Wikipedia projects.

mydrawings.com 1, originally uploaded by Salvor.

I have always been fascinated by online drawing, especially drawing where many work together on same picture. There have been for many years available tools like OEKAKI and I have had great fun drawing at oekakicentral.com I have also been a member of Deviantart for many years and seen interesting pieces of collaborative projects there. Flickr of course has many collaborative projects but those are mostly in photos not drawings.

Today I discovered new tool via Digg. This tool is the website http://mydrawings.com and it has features that I like both from Devianart and Oekaki. You can draw on the world atlas, you claim one square at a time but you can continue a drawing from ajoining squares or draw your own. I made several squares with blond lady with flower growing on the head. See the screenshot above.

All the doodling right now on mydrawing.com seem unfocused and only fun. But this or similiar tools have potential in education or collaboration, brainstorming through pictures/visual material and creating somekind of collaborative digital patchwork. But for that to work you have to have some rules such as have developed over time in communities like Devianart. And the people participating have to have some skills in expressing themselves with pictures and visuals.

I probably would be member of the pirate party if I lived in Sweden. Their goal is stated:
"The Pirate Party wants to fundamentally reform copyright law, get rid of the patent system, and ensure that citizens' rights to privacy are respected. With this agenda, and only this, we are making a bid for representation in the Swedish parliament in the upcoming national elections in September"

Here is the Swedish website of the Pirate Party

And here is info in English:

But since there is no Pirate party in Iceland I am an active member of the Progressive Party in Iceland - it is a farmers party considered by many to be the most corrupt in Iceland - perhaps because it is almost impossible to form government without the Progressive party - meaning that this party is almost always in power. Now the party has about half of the ministers in the government but has less then 10% of the votes of the people. My long term goal is to promote open source in this political setting and try to build up democratic social movement.]]>
